Happy Mother's Day

Here's to all the Moms out there - especially my Mom who does so much for me all the time (and is a huge supporter and inspiration for this business).

Mom and I love watching TV shows and movies together. It got me thinking about some TV and movie moms who are great (but not as great as mine!)

.

1. Joyce Byers from Stranger Things

If your kid disappeared into another dimension, would you communicate through Christmas lights and fight monsters for them? Exactly.

Joyce is chaotic in the best way. Everyone thinks she’s losing it at first, but she never stops trusting her instincts. Also, she somehow manages to survive constant trauma while still being the emotional core of the show.

It's “stressed mom energy” as an art form.

2. Evelyn Wang from Everything Everywhere All at Once

This movie emotionally destroyed me in a good way.

Evelyn is trying to run a laundromat, deal with taxes, save the multiverse, and reconnect with her daughter at the same time. The whole movie is basically about how hard it can be for parents and kids to understand each other.

She’s flawed, overwhelmed, stubborn, loving — all at once. Which is probably why she feels so human.

Also, the rock scene? I’m still not over it.

3. Morticia Addams from Wednesday

Morticia has always been iconic, but the newer version in Wednesday somehow made her so cool.

She’s elegant, terrifying, and completely supportive of Wednesday being her weird little self. Honestly, that’s elite parenting. Imagine never having to explain your personality to your mom because she’s somehow even stranger than you are.

4. Rainbow Johnson from Black-ish

Bow is one of the most balanced TV moms ever because she actually feels like a person outside of parenting.

She’s funny, smart, exhausted, ambitious, and constantly trying to hold her family together while also calling everyone out when necessary. A lot of sitcom moms end up becoming background characters, but Bow always had her own voice and perspective. And she's a doctor!

5. Helen Parr / Elastigirl from Incredibles 2

Imagine saving the world and still having to help your kid with math homework.

Helen Parr deserves more respect because she somehow keeps the entire family functioning while being objectively the most competent superhero in the house. Incredibles 2 especially gave her a chance to shine outside of “supportive mom” mode.

Stretching powers are also the perfect metaphor for motherhood if you think about it for more than two seconds.

Plus Mom helped me make a great Incredibles costume!

Happy Mothers Day.
